EDINBURG, Texas — Aidan Avelar loves every aspect of basketball.
“I love the team camaraderie we all have, I love that it brings a lot of people together and it teaches you discipline and being able to work hard,” he said.
The 18-year-old plays varsity ball at Robert Vela High School in Edinburg, Texas.
“I think the greatest asset I bring to the team is being able to be a leader on the court, being able to keep everyone in check and being able to just have everyone do their jobs and not stay not being focused and have everyone on the same page,” he said.
He isn’t just focused on sports. He’s received the Principal’s Award, the Superintendent’s Award, is a member of the National Honor Society and has a 4.0 GPA.
While Avelar doesn’t plan on playing college ball next year, but he has big plans.
“I’ve been accepted into Texas A&M at College Station and I’m looking forward to furthering my academics at that college,” he said.
He hopes to go to business school and eventually become a lawyer.
