AUSTIN, Texas — Nothing but kind words have been offered in the passing of former ERCOT President and CEO Brad Jones. It’s reported that he died on Nov. 8.

Jones’ family stayed by his side as he passed away Wednesday.

Jones served as interim president and CEO from May 4, 2021, to Nov. 1, 2022. ERCOT expressed how much his colleagues revered him and spoke of him like family.

An ERCOT memoriam for him states, “No words can express our sadness for this loss, and our gratitude for the opportunity to have known and worked with him. Brad was a friend, a colleague, a leader, and a genuinely caring person.”

Before Jones’ transition to interim CEO, he was a part of the ERCOT team from April 1, 2013, to Oct. 10, 2015, as senior vice president and chief operating officer.

Many other leadership roles Jones had included president and CEO at the New York Independent System Operator, and vice president of generation development and vice president of government relations at Luminant (formerly TXU). At Luminant, he was awarded with the Commissioners’ Award from the Public Utility Commission of Texas for his contributions to the state as a leader.

The memoriam reads that, “He touched the lives and careers of many ERCOT employees and industry colleagues. He will be dearly missed.”

Jones sat on various boards with the ERCOT and NYISO Board of Directors, Gulf Coast Power Association, and the FutureGen Industrial Alliance. Other boards he served on were for the March of Dimes, Atlas Scholars and St. Peter’s Health Foundation.
