RALEIGH, N.C. — The man charged with the shooting death of a driver traveling on Interstate 40 near Raleigh early Friday morning made his first appearance in court Monday. A judge denied bond to the suspect, and he will be held in Wake County jail.
At Wake County District Court, the suspect, Josue Alejandro Quintanilla-Reyes, 32, was told by Judge Margaret Eagles through an interpreter that he was being charged with murder. He was given a public defender.
The victim's family attended the hearing.
Ricardo Baez Cardenas, 35, died Friday after the shooting, according to the Wake County Sheriff's Office.
Quintanilla-Reyes was arrested in Durham later Friday.

The shooting happened at about 6:20 a.m. on I-40 East near the North Harrison Avenue exit. The investigation snarled traffic during Friday morning's commute.
Video of the shooting, sent to Spectrum News 1 by a witness, appears to show shots fired from a car into a pickup truck as they both drive east into Raleigh.
At least five gunshots are heard in the video before a white pickup truck veers to the right through traffic and onto the right-hand shoulder.
