CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C -- Camp Lejeune command, in partner with MCCS Camp Lejeune New River, is throwing America a smaller and more intimate birthday party this year.
This year, for the first time, the party and fireworks show will happen at Onslow Beach instead of the parade deck. Yolanda Mayo, in charge of operations for MCCS, says the scaled down party is due to all the construction and clean up still happening post-Florence.
Only DOD cardholders and their sponsored guests are invited.
“It’s completely different than it has been in years past. This is the first time we are doing our fourth of July celebration out at our beautiful Onslow Beach. But this is a tremendous asset to the base, so we might as well use it,” says Mayo.
The party starts at 6 p.m., the band goes on at 7 p.m. and the fireworks show begins at 9 p.m.. Food trucks will arrive mid-afternoon. Beer will also be sold.
Singer-songwriter and US Marine Col. Mike Corrado will be performing.
