SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — Military spouses within the region of Clark County will be able to attend a six-month academic program, with a focus on information technology, at Clark State College—for free.

What You Need To Know

  • Clark State College is offering a six-month academic program focused on information technology to military spouses

  • It is free of charge to these military spouses

  • A partnership between the college and The Rosie Project made this possible

This is thanks to a partnership between the college and nonprofit The Rosie Project, according to a college press release.

No prior experience, degree or other courses are required to attend this program, which also provides computers and assists with child care if the participants have kids younger than 6-years-old.

According to the release, the students will earn their IT certification, have the opportunity to connect with employers and even interview for government jobs.

Toni Overholser, Clark State’s vice president of advancement and outreach, said this is a “vital step” toward the expansion of military spouse career opportunities as well as needs in the workforce.

“We recognize the sacrifices military families make in service to our nation, often including moving for new assignments,” Overholser said in the release. “This partnership allows Clark State to assist military husbands and wives in accessing career training and resources that are transportable. They gain skills and experience that are highly sought-after in the Department of Defense and field of information technology, and the certifications students earn are accepted military-wide, so spouses can transfer between military bases with relative ease. As a military spouse, I was personally affected by these challenges and I’m proud that Clark State and The Rosie Project offer so many resources to support our military families.”

Spouses of active-duty, Reserve, National Guard and veterans can participate in this program, which takes place on Clark State’s campus in Springfield, Ohio.

“Named nation’s number one Military-Friendly School and Military Spouse-Friendly School by VIQTORY, Clark State has also ensured the program’s content is specifically tailored to match career opportunities available near military installations like Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and Ohio Air National Guard, ensuring that military spouses can gain skills directly aligned with the local job market,” the release reads.

The college also touts its 50% tuition reduction for active-duty military, members of the National Guard and Reserve and their spouses.

Classes for the program start March 17. You can visit here for more info.

“The opportunity to partner with Clark State College helps us advance our mission of empowering military spouses to build fulfilling, long-term careers,” said Aniza Brown, CEO of The Rosie Project, in the release. “Together, we are creating pathways to success while also ensuring military families have access to the resources and support they need to thrive.”
