Blue Jackets player, Justin Danforth, explained it was an unforgettable game.

“It’s a special moment and you know in those TV timeouts just kind of look around and take in the energy of the crowd and just soak it all in,” Danforth said.

The game was tied 3-3 in the third period until Danforth scored the fourth goal.

“Just the amount of emotion that went into it after that goal, it’s pretty special,” Danforth said.

The right wing said it’s a win that also goes to the fans.

“They are deserving of this game and they are deserving of us getting in the playoffs and making a run, so it’s a big night for Columbus in general. I think the fans they deserve this, and they got it,” Danforth said.

Fans like Gabriel Cruz knew it was a once in a lifetime experience.

“Having the element of being outside and having it be as cold as it is and seeing players and seeing players out on the ice, it just brings a next level of experience,” Cruz said.

Danforth received the “donkey hat” after the game, which is something the team does as a way to honor the memory of Johnny Gaudreau, who was killed after being hit by a car in the offseason.

“Johnny’s here with us in spirit and he’s been with us all year and, so you know, to get the donkey on a night like tonight. I know he’s laughing up there and calling me a donkey,” Danforth said.

Danforth said Johnny was a big part of their group and that it was special to get the win for Johnny and his family.
