COLUMBUS, Ohio — Applications for the special spring 2025 trout fishing and wild turkey hunts are now open, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife.

  • Hunters and anglers are accepted on a lottery system

You can apply online here or via the HuntFish OH mobile app. You can also call 1-866-703-1928 but will be charged an addition fee of $5.50.

A “random, computer based lottery system” will determine the successful applicants to these hunts and fishing dates, according to an ODNR press release. Each application costs $3 and require all necessary permits/licenses.

Applications are open through March 31.

The spring youth wild turkey hunts will occur at the following wildlife areas:

  • Eagle Creek in Brown County
  • Killbuck Marsh in Wayne County
  • Killdeer Plains in Wyandot County
  • Lake La Su An in Williams County
  • Mosquito Creek in Trumbull County
  • Woodland Trails in Preble County

“Mentor style and general applicant hunts are available. Hunting dates vary depending on sites and the length of the specific permits,” the release reads. “Interested hunters can visit the Controlled Hunting Access Lotteries page at wildohio.gov for more information.”

Trout fishing can be found at Cold Creek, located in Erie County.

“The stream is one of Ohio’s most productive and unique waterways,” the release reads. “A half-mile section of the creek located at Castalia State Fish Hatchery is open to lottery winners on select dates between Monday, May 5 and Friday, Nov. 28, 2025. Interested anglers can find more information about this popular event on the Controlled Fishing Access Lottery page at wildohio.gov.”
