CALIFORNIA – With the State of California under a Stay at Home order, many are left wondering how they will occupy their time during the coronavirus pandemic.

While schools are closed there are several ways the community is coming together to help parents entertain their children.

LEARN ABOUT OCEAN LIFE

El Porto Shark, a nonprofit founded by a Los Angeles native, often spent time in schools and other events speaking about shark conservation. Due to social distancing, the nonprofit went online to develop educational videos, including on their Facebook page.

FEEL LIKE YOU'RE ON VACATION

Hotels around the world are offering live looks at their beaches and destinations so people stuck at home can feel like they are on vacation. The Malibu Beach Inn has a live stream up of their pier where you can still see surfers enjoying a sunny day. You can also take a virtual tour of the hotel.

OC SHERIFF'S DEPT. GIVES VIRTUAL TOUR 

The Orange County Sheriff’s Department is creating videos for children to educate them on what deputies do in the community and give them an up-close virtual look at some of their gear and tools.

EXPLORE AROUND THE WORLD

For those who are itching to get out of their house, they can explore the world without ever having to leave. Explore offers a live look around the world to share the natural world with children and people of all ages. They will also be offering education resources with lesson plans for students while they learn at home.

GETTY OFFERS EXHIBIT WALKTHROUGH

Right before the Getty closed the museum unveiled the exhibit “Painted Prophecy: The Hebrew Bible through Christian Eyes.” Curator Larisa Grollemon gives you a walkthrough of the pieces. Many museums are joining the #museumfromhome initiative to provide people with artistic and educational distractions from being stuck at home.

THE BROAD FROM HOME

The Broad has their entire Un-Private Collection of curated artists taking a deep-dive with cultural leaders. Each segment is posted to YouTube featuring speakers like Neo Rauch, Roberta Bernstein, Ed Shad, and many more.

STUCK AT HOME SCIENCE ACTIVITIES 

The California Science Center is offering scientific videos and activities under the #StuckatHomeScience initiative.

CONNECT WITH NATURAL HISTORY AT HOME

The Natural History Museum of L.A. County is offering school curriculum and family activities for those at home. You can even participate in crowd-sourced science and social media campaigns.
