LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Emilie Herzig will never forget May 2022.
“It was really intense. It was really, really intense,” Herzig said.
Emilie Herzig will never forget May 2022.
“It was really intense. It was really, really intense,” Herzig said.
She’s a mother to two teenage daughters. Her youngest daughter received some troubling news that month.
“Came to the house, sat me down and during the well-check visit, which every child has to do is the toe touch where you bend over, Dr. Hines, her pediatrician, had noticed that she had a significant hump in her shoulders and on her upper back, which she’s very broad shouldered to begin with,” Herzig said.
The 13-year-old had scoliosis and required surgery later that year.
“She is a horse girl, lives at the barn, lives at Spring Run Farm, and that was our primary focus,” Herzig said.
Nine months later, her 16-year-old daughter, had an accident at an indoor trampoline park.
“We had another surgery party on the eighth floor and she did incredible. She had one rod and four screws put in, and we were camped out here for a couple of days for that,” Herzig said.
That’s why Herzig and her daughters spent their Friday evening at Norton Children’s helping support the 16th annual radiothon hosted by the stations of Alpha Media. The radiothon helps benefit Norton Children's Hospital Foundation.
“Norton Children’s serves over 210,000 kids. Last year alone, we had 283 kids currently in the hospital. So, we wanted to make sure that they knew they had a village of people behind them supporting them from the community,” said WDJX morning show host, Kelly K.
The event raised more than $87,000 this year.
“I have members of my team that had heart surgery here, infants straight out of their mothers belly to know what an impact Norton has made in the lives it has saved and the health it has provided for families across our city. It’s so heartwarming. And that’s why Rachel and I are so proud to support them,” Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg, D-Ky. said.
Support that Herzig is forever grateful.
“I will be forever indebted to all of the people here who have helped our family,” Herzig said.
The radiothon lasted two days.
