KENTUCKY ā€” On this weekā€™s ā€œIn Focus Kentuckyā€ program, weā€™re sitting down one-on-one with Kentucky Lt. Gov. Jacqueline Coleman.

During this segment, Lt. Gov. Coleman, D-Ky., discusses her personal experience with breast cancer screenings and the importance of making appointments and showing up for them. In Dec. 2023, Coleman announced a clean report after undergoing a double mastectomy, just weeks after sharing publicly that she had undergone the procedure, citing a ā€œsignificant family history of cancer.ā€ She underwent the procedures just days after her second inauguration as Lieutenant Governor.

ā€œWell, Iā€™m doing great, and thank you for asking, and Iā€™m doing great because I scheduled my screening when I was supposed to, and I showed up, and when I got news that wasnā€™t great, I decided to make the most aggressive decision that I could, because I went home and had a three-year-old running around the house, and that made it, I think, even more special to me and even more important to me. But I will say that, as someone who has a family history of breast cancer, that is pretty discouraging. I knew that I had to be on top of these screenings, and I knew that I had to make sure that I was doing the things I needed to do, to take care of myself, so that I can take care of other people, and thatā€™s what weā€™re here to remind folks about in October, if women have not scheduled those screenings, please schedule them and please make sure you show up. I did my very first screening during our reelection campaign. And so if I can do that and make time for that, then I know you can too, and it was the most important, best decision Iā€™ve ever made,ā€ said Lt. Gov. Coleman.
