BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Warren County students received hands on technology training that could one day lead to a full-time career.
According to the Pew Research Center, approximately 44% of parents surveyed said their child uses a laptop every day.
Surya Rasuli is a Warren County Public School student who uses technology throughout her entire day.
“For studying, taking notes, even doing math, for everything,” said Rasuli.
WCPS is teaching students about the technology beyond the screens.
Grant Heckman, a level two technician with WCPS, said, “The more knowledge these kids have, the more background information they have. They’re just going to be better served moving forward.”
The best way to learn more about computers is to dissect it down to its core components.
Student Kristy Ordonez said, “Right now I’m taking out the screws to take out the battery so I can get to the trackpad because the trackpad needs to be replaced.”
The students spent half of a day repairing over 300 laptops. Rasuli said the repetitive process could help them with future computer problems if something goes wrong.
“It might stop working someday, but if you’re able to fix it on your own, you’re not going to have as much of a problem.”, said Rasuli.
It could even land them jobs as technology becomes more vital in daily lives.
“If they wanted to go work at a help desk, if they wanted to go work at a technology job, an IT job, they could,” said Heckman
