A British competitive eater, personal trainer and YouTuber has met and completed a Portland eatery’s breakfast pizza challenge, and the video record is generating some buzz.
Adam Moran, a native of Leeds, England, came to Mister Bagel on Forest Avenue on June 25 to take on the shop’s challenge of eating an entire breakfast pizza in 30 minutes or less. He posted a video documenting his accomplishment to the video-sharing website on Nov. 5. So far, the video has been viewed more than 3 million times.
“Is breakfast on pizza like a normal thing up here?” he asked the small crowd of customers and staff who gathered to watch.
Moran, a self-described “personal trainer” who posts under the YouTube handle BeardMeatsFood, has been interviewed by various media in the U.K. about his competitive eating. His YouTube channel features videos of him completing various food challenges all over the U.S. and Canada.
“I’m a qualified personal trainer so I know that things that I can do and get away with,” Moran told the British news website Metro. “For instance, if you’re training you can get away with having a binge once a week and it not affecting you.”
All of the challenges feature enormous amounts of food including poutine, pho soup, breakfast challenges such as pancakes and waffles and of course, pizza challenges. One video documents Moran eating the 20,000-calorie Octuple Bypass Burger at the Heart Attack Grille in Las Vegas.
This summer, Moran took on Mister Bagel’s ongoing challenge: A five-pound pizza piled high with, according to the eatery’s Facebook page, “cream cheese, eggs, cheese, bacon, sausage and diced ham.”
Moran took on the challenge with gusto, cracking jokes and on occasion eating two slices of the pizza at once.
As his finished, Moran declared, “That was flippin’ delicious!” He handily met the challenge at just under 16 minutes, drawing a standing ovation from the crowd. Prior to Moran, no one had managed to eat the pizza in less than 24 minutes.
“I am beyond impressed!” said one employee while clearing Moran’s place.
For beating the challenge, Moran earned a $100 prize and a free t-shirt.
