KENNEDY SPACE CENTER — The historic Artemis I launch, the first of three missions to send humankind back to the moon, was scrubbed Monday morning due to an "engine bleed" and other concerns, NASA announced.

The next two backup dates to launch Artemis I are Sept. 2 and Sept. 5.

NASA’s Artemis’ Space Launch System rocket and the Orion capsule will launch for an uncrewed flight test all the way to the moon to provide researchers with information they'll use for the upcoming crewed missions — Artemis II in 2024 and Artemis III in 2025.

The astronauts on Artemis II will orbit the moon.

The crew of Artmis III will land on the lunar surface.
