MAULDIN, S.C. - Hundreds of people converged on an empty field in Mauldin, South Carolina, on Wednesday morning. This is just the first time of many that people will converge on the site, because in the near future this will be the official home of the Greenville Triumph SC and Greenville Liberty soccer clubs. The teams hosted a groundbreaking event for the future facility.

“Today, we are taking a significant step toward realizing our vision of creating a stadium that embodies the best of the Upstate community,” said Joe Erwin, chairman and owner of Greenville Triumph SC and Greenville Liberty SC. “This stadium will be more than just a home for the Greenville Triumph and Liberty; it will be a place where champions are crowned, families gather, and communities unite. It will be a hub for our youth athletes, concertgoers, and community celebrations—a place where memories will be made for generations to come.”

This was not your average groundbreaking ceremony as one of the biggest legends in the game was on hand as well. Ronaldinho Gaúcho sat in the front row and helped turn dirt with other officials on hand.

The stadium will be a game changer for the city of Mauldin. Although it's one of the most popular cities in South Carolina, Mauldin lacks a true city center or downtown. Officials hope that this facility will help create that space.

“This project represents not just a new stadium, but a new chapter in Mauldin’s growth and development,” said Mauldin Mayor Terry Merritt. “We are bringing the world to Mauldin by embracing the world’s game. This facility will create jobs and attract visitors and inspire the next generation of athletes in our community.”
