COLUMBIA, S.C. — The Richland Soil and Water Conservation District is again offering warm-season vegetable, herb, and wildflower seeds to Richland County residents at no cost through its Seed Sanctuary program.

The Seed Sanctuary was launched in April 2020. So far, the program has distributed more than 38,000 seed packets. Gardeners of all skill levels have benefited from the program, which promotes pollinator conservation, food security and home gardening.

These seeds can be picked up at the County Administration Building and Richland Library Eastover. Residents can also request seeds by mail using a Google Form

The seeds are only available on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.

“The Seed Sanctuary program empowers Richland County residents to become environmental stewards in their own back yards,” said Jessica Thompson, conservation education analyst for RSWCD.

RSWCD will also be distributing seeds at community events throughout Richland County. Even coordinators who are interested in having them at their event should send an email to RSWCD’s administrative assistant of outreach and community engagement.

“By participating, you support our pollinator populations and help native plant species thrive, fostering sustainability and preserving biodiversity in South Carolina.” Thompson said.
