Janiah Hinds, 15, is also working to educate people about black history and culture through her company called "Slay It Proud."
Each week, she records a video for social media shining the spotlight on African-Americans who've played a role in shaping history.
"I do have to do a lot of research but it's very rewarding to me because I learn things I didn't know before so it makes me feel like I'm getting smarter as time goes on," she said.
Janiah also sells t-shirts with motivational messages like "Black is Beautiful," designed to encourage black pride.
"I know there's a lot of stereotypes about African Americans, especially in these times as you can see, so I really want to show people that African Americans are much more than that," she said.
Kymone Hinds said the business is teaching his daughter who she is and who she wants to be.
"You know, we're seeing a shift, a movement now and I think her voice is one that's going to be important so that people can continue to understand and move this needle towards racial justice and equality," Kymone said.
Janiah said she spends a lot of time researching and thinking about events in the past but she also has an eye on the future.
"You know, if you tell someone what you're not, you also need to tell them what you are," she said.
Janiah said she's a teenager who's determined to make a difference.
She plans to go to college and hopes to become a Civil Rights attorney.
