PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. — Municipal elections are approaching for beach communities and will be held on March 11.

The time to register or re-request a mail-in ballot is nearing.

Maryellen Gordon, the voter registration and voter guide chair with the League of Women Voters of the St. Petersburg Area, says voters need to check if their information is up-to-date, especially those who vote by mail.

“These municipal elections are in some ways more important to your everyday life than in the federal elections,” Gordon said.

For those who vote by mail, she said it is important to remember that mail-in ballots need to be requested every two years after a federal election cycle.

This is the first municipal election in the beach communities since hurricanes Helene and Milton. Many people in the hard-hit communities have been frustrated at the level of recovery and even more so with “damage assessment letters” that some residents say has been a frustrating process.

The League of Women Voters is holding a series of candidate forums in Indian Shores and St. Pete Beach.

“We are hoping to get voters out, so they understand that there are mayors up for election, there are commissioners up for election,” Gordon said.

Pinellas County voters need to request a mail-in ballot before Feb. 27. For more information, click here.
