NEW YORK — Nearly 2,900 new coronavirus cases have been reported in the city in the past 24 hours, and 201 more people were admitted to hospitals.

The mayor's office said Thursday 2,890 new COVID-19 cases were reported in the city in the past day.

New York City's seven-day average positivity rate is 6.29%, up a bit from the day before.

Statewide, 12,568 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed out of 226,296 tests.

The state's positivity rate stands at 5.55%.

COVID-19 hospitalizations in the state now stand at 6,928. One thousand one hundred sixty patients are now in the ICU, 621 of whom are intubated, according to Gov. Andrew Cuomo's office. During the spring, hospitalizations in New York state hit a high point of about 18,000 people.

One hundred twenty-nine people in New York state died of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours. The state's confirmed death toll is 29,149.
