Three college campuses in the city have canceled in-person classes over coronavirus concerns.

Columbia University and Barnard College have suspended classes Monday and Tuesday. Both schools are just blocks apart.

Fordham University issued a similar statement at noon, saying classes at all area campuses are suspended for the remainder of Monday and Tuesday.

Columbia's president says the decision came after one member of the university was quarantined because of exposure to the virus. He didn't specify if it is a student or staff member. He did say that person has not been diagnosed with the virus.

According to Fordham's president, the school learned of an undergraduate commuter student who exhibited symptoms consistent with the coronavirus. That student has been tested for the virus, and is self-isolating at home.

All three campuses are holding classes online for the rest of the week.

New York University announced Monday afternoon that it is planning to "transition to remote instruction" at its Manhattan and Brooklyn campuses starting on Wednesday, and will continue remote instruction when students return from winter break during the week of March 23.
