Where the government has failed, charitable organizations have stepped up to fill the void.

One of those organizations is The Partnership for the Homeless, which works to connect homeless families with the help they need to find permanent housing.

CEO Aine Duggan joined In Focus to talk about the homeless situation in the city. Despite what we see, which are single men and women living on the streets, the vast majority of those living in shelters are families with children.

There are fewer New Yorkers living in shelters now than pre-COVID, which Duggan says comes down to one thing: eviction protections.  But she worries that, when those protections expire, the number of homeless families will explode, putting further strain on an already overrun shelter system. Shel shared her ideas on what must be done to protect families when the eviction moratorium ends.
