NEW YORK — New York City has recently seen a sharp rise in COVID-19 cases, over 1,4000 new cases daily for the past seven days.

In an effort to get more people vaccinated, Mayor Bill de Blasio this week announced that people who want to go to indoor venues, like restaurants and gyms, must show proof of vaccination. This comes as the White House announced Friday that half the population of the United States is fully vaccinated.

Dr. Rhea Boyd, a pediatrician and public health advocate based in San Francisco, joined NY1 political anchor Errol Louis on “Inside City Hall” on Friday evening to talk about the recent uptick and to explain what people need to do to protect themselves.

Boyd, who also works on a national campaign to provide Black communities credible information about the COVID-19 vaccine, also stressed the importance of getting inoculated. She says the vaccine is the most effective way to protect children from COVID-19, especially considering those under the age of 12 are still not eligible for the shot.
