Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders came to New York on Monday to endorse Mayor Bill de Blasio.

Sanders rode the subway with the mayor, but the two has to wait quite a while as the downtown A Train was delayed.

After talking to other straphangers, the train was pretty jam-packed, but the crowds began cheering Sanders and started several anti-Trump chants.

The two appeared at a press conference together to support the mayor's proposed tax on the wealthy to pay for subway repairs.

"This is the wealthiest country in the history of the world, and it is not a radical idea to say that when you ride on the subway you should ride in comfort, you should ride in a subway car where you can sit where you know when the train is coming," Sanders said.

"We have to understand that a 'millionaire's tax' to fix the MTA is another way of responding to the inequality that plagues our society," de Blasio said. "No one understands it better than Sen. Bernie Sanders."

Sanders said de Blasio needs to be re-elected, and the two appeared at a campaign event together later Monday.

New York Sen. Charles Schumer also endorsed de Blasio, with the election just eight days away.
