Mayor Bill de Blasio has appointed the city's first ever senior executive director of the office of nightlife.

Ariel Palitz is a native New Yorker and has owned and operated "Sutra" nightclub in the East Village for 10 years.

She's also served as a community board member on the state liquor authority licensing committee for nearly seven years.

The mayor created the position to promote a safe and vibrant nightlife scene that benefits both nearby businesses and residents.

She will help club owners find new locations, expand their businesses and help them sell existing property.

The city's nightlife industry supports more than 300,000 jobs and generates billions of dollars every year.
