NEW YORK - The New York City Police Department says a 3-year-old boy was killed and his mother injured after being struck by a vehicle Monday morning in Manhattan.

Police say it happened just before 10 a.m. when a Ford F-250 driven by a 59-year-old man was turning onto First Avenue from 116th Street in East Harlem.

Investigators say the boy, identified as Bertin Dejesus, was being pushed in a stroller by his mother in the intersection when they were struck by the truck.

The 3-year-old was pronounced dead at NYC Health and Hospitals/Metropolitan.

The mother was being treated for minor injuries at the same hospital.

Investigators say the driver remained at the scene.

Charges are now pending.
