While celebrations of any kind feel strange right now, it was a big night for some of NY1’s journalists at the 2020 New York Emmy Awards.

The event, which has been honoring excellence in journalism for 63 years, was streamed live for the first time in its history, in order to comply with New York’s shelter in place policies.

In total, NY1 captured eight awards.

Our Pat Kiernan won a long overdue Emmy for the “Talent: Anchor” category.

National Health Reporter Erin Billups took home the award for “Talent: Medical Reporter” for her work on “Exploring Your Health.”

Vivian Lee won an Emmy for her story on Joe’s Pub, a legendary NYC performance place.

Josh Robin and the team behind NY1’s “Street Level” picked up two awards Saturday night — one for “7th Ave: A Cradle to the Modern Gay Rights Movement,” and “Northern Boulevard: A Model of Tolerance for Centuries.”

Robin, who also hosts “Untangled,” grabbed two more awards along with his team for their stories on “Combating Hate in the Digital Age,” and “What Is the State of Our Democracy?”

Finally, NY1’s weekly-turned-daily podcast “Crosstown” also won an award for its promotional campaign.
