Law enforcement sources say the same inmate who tried to escape from Rikers Island two days ago tried to escape again this morning.

Sources say the 37-year-old man scaled a wall and got on top of a roof.

He was apprehended in less than an hour.

"This detainee was quickly apprehended and returned to custody. The incident is under investigation and there will be immediate staff suspensions if warranted,” said Peter Thorne Deputy Commissioner of Public Information.

Two days ago, the same inmate made it to the shoreline of Rikers before being apprehended.

The Rikers Island Bridge was closed on Friday to vehicular traffic for about two hours after the attempted escape.

COBA officials said the two officers and the inmate were treated at a local hospital, but no one was seriously injured.
