NEW YORK - After NY1 exposed the questionable relationship between the head of the city’s Board of Elections and a voting machine company, the city’s Conflicts of Interest Board has fined Michael Ryan $2,500.

Up until NY1's reporting, Ryan sat on an advisory board for the maker of our voting machines, Election Systems and Software.

In that role, the company paid for Ryan to attend conferences across the country.

It also paid for Ryan to stay in a Midtown hotel during a conference in Manhattan.

Ryan lives on Staten Island.

On Thursday, the Conflicts of Interest Board fined Ryan for accepting a prohibited gift in connection to the Manhattan hotel stay.

A spokesperson for the Board of Elections told NY1 Ryan had no comment.

After NY1's reporting, Ryan resigned from the advisory board.

Elections Systems and Software has since disbanded it.
