QUEENS - The city's Sheriff's Office says its lights out at an illegal Queens club that packed dozens of people into a basement at 65-25 Roosevelt Aveue, violating emergency orders set in place by the mayor and governor.

Police say they busted the gathering at around 12:30 A.M. Sunday, and that more than 70 people were inside the basement.

Police say those in attendance were drinking, smoking hookah and not social distancing in the building's basement. The establishment also does not have a liquor license, officials said.

The FDNY was on scene the scene well because entrances were blocked off, making for a dangerous setting had there been a fire or other emergency.

Making matters worse, National Grid responded to the incident after reports of high levels of carbon monoxide being vented into the climb space.

The deputy sheriffs say they had been monitoring the space after getting tips on it.

When the deputy sheriffs tried to enter, the owner, Marco Chacon, met them with physical force, according to police.

Police say Chacon was arrested on a variety of charges, including disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and faces a fine of $15,000 for organizing the mass gathering.

Police say 63 people inside face civil penalties of $1,000.

People in the neighborhood like Henry Sanchez said he no idea what went on there early Saturday morning and was surprised by the news.

“Very quiet. Always pass by here. Late nights, it’s pretty quiet,” Sanchez said.
