NEW YORK — The homeless population in the city's shelters hit an all-time high in February 2021.

The Coalition for the Homeless says nearly 21,000 people were sleeping at city shelters that month.

The group also says the number of babies born to parents sleeping in shelters reached nearly 1,400.

That's the highest on record since at least 2015.

The group released the info in its "State of the Homeless 2021" report.

The coalition says the pandemic caused a devastating toll on people of color and those who lack stable housing.

It's urging Mayor Bill de Blasio and Governor Andrew Cuomo to fund more housing specifically for homeless single adults.
