It may have been a wet start to Memorial Day weekend, but the weather had nothing on 16-year-old Kristen McQuaid, who was looking to combine relaxation with vaccination.

“Nothing is really stopping me,” McQuaid said, “Even if it was snowing I would come out here to get it.”

What You Need To Know

  • The buses will be open until 7p.m. each day until Memorial Day

  • Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines are available at the sites

  • You do not need an appointment to get the vaccine

She came to get the Pfizer shot at a mobile vaccine site on Beach 84th Street in Rockaway, Queens.

“I think it's a really good idea, especially for people coming to the beach. I think it’s great that they’re helping everyone get the vaccine in any way possible,” said McQuaid.

The vaccine bus is one of a few parked along the city’s parks and beaches this weekend. You can walk up and get the shot just like Kristen, if you’re willing to brave the elements.

While McQuaid admitted she was a little nervous about the needle, she said she felt good after she walked off the bus.

Other sites include Orchard Beach in the Bronx and Brighton Beach for those in Brooklyn.

The buses will be open until 7 p.m. from now until Memorial Day, so you can stay safe and hopefully dry this holiday weekend.
