In the crowded race for mayor, Maya Wiley will accept the endorsement of a slate of progressive officials that includes a former Scott Stringer backer, NY1 has exclusively learned.

Wiley, a former MSNBC legal analyst, will announce the support of State Sen. Julia Salazar, Assembly members Maritza Davila and Emily Gallagher and District Leader Samy Nemir-Olivares at a Brooklyn event Friday.

What You Need To Know

  • Wiley also has the endorsements of three U.S. House members, including Rep. Hakeem Jeffries

  • The former MSNBC analyst stands to gain left-leaning support following Stringer and Morales scandals

  • Some key progressive leaders still have yet to endorse in mayoral primary

"Maya Wiley is the only progressive in the race who can win — and this strong show of support from so many Brooklyn politicians shows how our movement is growing,” campaign spokeswoman Julia Savel said in a statement.

Salazar was part of a group of left-leaning elected officials who pulled their support of Stringer in late April following an allegation he sexually harassed a campaign worker 20 years ago.

While much of that group has yet to endorse another candidate, State Sen. Gustavo Rivera now backs Dianne Morales, even he said he supports the unionization effort of her campaign workers amid allegations of a toxic environment.

Wiley, who also was chief counsel to Mayor de Blasio and chair of the NYPD Civilian Complaint Review Board, stands to gain amid the scandals facing fellow progressives Stringer and Morales. But some high-profile figures on the left, including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Public Advocate Jumaane Williams, have yet to announce a preferred candidate in the Democratic primary.
