The Taliban swept into Kabul on Aug. 15 after President Ashraf Ghani fled the country, bringing an end to a two-decade campaign in which the U.S. and its allies had tried to transform Afghanistan.

On Aug. 31, the final U.S. flight left Kabul's airport after a tumultuous exit, ending more than two decades of war in Afghanistan.
