BROOKLYN — A man has turned himself in after police say he killed a 15-year-old girl in a hit-and-run while driving a school bus in Brooklyn Monday morning, police said.

Officers responded to a 911 call just before 8 a.m. at Bedford Avenue and Avenue P in Sheepshead Bay, near James Madison High School.

Police said they arrived to find a child, who police later identified as Antonina Zatulovska, with trauma to the head lying on the ground, unconscious and unresponsive.

Zatulovska was pronounced dead at the scene.

Alexsandr Patlakh has since been charged with failure to yield to a pedestrian and failure to use due care.

In a statement, Transportation Alternatives Executive Director Danny Harris called on local lawmakers to take action.

“New York City must use proven tools that keep our children safe, and address the city’s deadly epidemic of traffic violence and reckless driving,” Harris said in the statement. “We demand justice for the family, as they process the unimaginable tragedy of losing a child, and the fact that the driver who killed her did nothing to help and fled the scene.”

An investigation by the NYPD's Highway Collision Investigation Squad remains ongoing.
