NEW YORK β€” The NYPD officer who died Tuesday after being critically wounded in Harlem last week has had several of his organs donated.

LiveOnNY, which oversees organ donation, says five lives were saved after Wilbert Mora's donation of a heart, liver, two kidneys and a pancreas.

Recipients included three people within New York state and two from other states.

Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell announced Mora's death Tuesday on Twitter. He was 27 years old.

"Wilbert is 3 times a hero," Sewell's tweet reads. "For choosing a life of service. For sacrificing his life to protect others. For giving life even in death through organ donation."

Mayor Eric Adams also called Mora a hero.

"He served his city, protected his community and gave his life for our safety," Adams said."

Mora and fellow officer Jason Rivera were shot Friday by 47-year-old Lashawn McNeil after three NYPD officers were called to an apartment at 119 W. 135th St. for a family dispute, according to the NYPD.

Rivera died Friday evening. He was 22 years old. His wake will be held Thursday, and his funeral will take place Friday.

McNeil was shot by the third officer while attempting to flee, police said. Authorities say McNeil died Monday of his injuries.

The third officer at the scene was not shot, according to police.

The Associated Press reported Friday that Rivera joined the force in November 2020, and Mora had been with the NYPD for four years.
