“All we can do is pray,” said neighbor Sharon Brown. “Pray it changes things, and we ask that god have mercy upon this family.”

Brown said her husband’s car was one of several cars that were struck Sunday in a violent incident that police say took place just before 8:30 a.m.

Video obtained by NY1 shows a landscape truck striking a parked BMW multiple times, which led to a handful of neighbors approaching the truck on foot.

But instead of making a clean getaway, the video shows the truck hitting a parked car with such force that it pinned a 49-year-old woman between two cars.

Police say the truck was reported stolen.

“It’s a tragic, painful situation especially on Mother’s Day,” says Malachi Nicholas, who lives nearby. “I can’t honestly imagine the pain they are going thru right now.”

Nicholas was about to head out to a meal with his own mother for Mother’s Day, when he learned of the incident.

“I’m grateful to have my mother still and sorry for the loss that happened this morning or whatever that family is going thru,” he said. “It’s just sad.”

The nonprofit transit advocacy group, Transportation Alternatives, tells NY1 prior to Sunday’s violent crash in South Jamaica, eight people across New York City had lost their lives since May 1 due to a traffic fatality.

Meantime, police say the driver’s abandoned landscape truck was recovered on 108th Avenue and 164 Place in Jamaica.

At last check, police said the victim was listed in critical condition at Jamaica Hospital. So far, no arrests have been made.
