Democratic State Sen. Velmanette Montgomery of Brooklyn, first elected in 1984, is retiring at the end of the year. Errol Louis moderates a debate between three Democrats looking to succeed her in the 25th State Senate District, which includes Clinton Hill, Bedford-Stuyvesant, and Red Hook:

  • Tremaine Wright, assemblywoman for Brooklyn’s 56th District — parts of which overlap 25th Senate District
  • Jabari Brisport, a public school teacher and activist
  • Jason Salmon, an activist and former aide to Montgomery

The three candidates are on the ballot in the primary, June 23.
