NEW YORK — Thousands of runners on Saturday participated in the LGBT Pride Run 6K in Manhattan.

The 40th run, which Front Runners New York and New York Road Runners hosted, began in Central Park.

A free virtual 5K run was also held coinciding with the event, accessible to all.

"It's really amazing to have everyone come out and celebrate with us for Pride and then we get to celebrate with them for their return to running," Front Runners New York President Gilbert Gaona said.

Each year, a portion of the proceeds is donated to a beneficiary. This year, it was New Alternatives, a nonprofit focused on helping LGBTQ homeless youth transition out of the homeless shelter system to stable adult lives.
