AUSTIN, Texas — Two weeks after its opening, the Austin Sobering Center is already changing the way it treats patients.

The facility provides space for people who may have had too much to drink to sober up before seeking treatment.

Officials say the center was designed to help people who perhaps didn't plan their night out, but instead they're getting patients who need a lot more help. That means staff at the center have had to readjust the way they work.

"This really is requiring us to look at the questions that we're asking, how we're asking them, the preliminary assessments that we're doing, and you know the back end pieces. What are their needs? People have different needs," Ronda Patrick with the Austin Sobering Center said.

The center is still on track to open 24 hours a day 7 days a week next month.
