AUSTIN, Texas — The City of Austin’s Arts and Music commissions are seeking public input on how to disperse $12,000,000 of bond money designated for creative space.

  • Residents invited to take survey
  • Public meeting on June 8
  • $500,000 set aside for research

Voters approved a bond proposition in 2018 authorizing funding for arts and cultural facilities, libraries, and museums.

Now the Austin City Manager must present to City Council recommendations that take into account the suggestions of the Arts and Music commissions.

The Arts and Music commissions have created a working group to discuss options for programming and funding. The city’s bond team and Economic Development Department (EDD) are also taking part in the discussion. The city has set aside $500,000 of the bond money to pay for an exploration phase. Some of the preliminary expenses include brokerage services, surveying, and property analysis.

Part of the exploration phase includes public engagement. Austin-area residents can take part in a survey to give feedback. This will help the city learn what the community sees as priorities.

On Saturday, June 8, the Arts and Music commissions will hold a special called meeting from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The public is invited to comment.

City staff will present their final recommendations for use of the bond to Austin City Council by late summer.
