Ready or not, here comes a bona fide heat wave across Texas that may include our first triple digit temperatures of 2020. Make sure you're taking extra steps to keep yourself and your pets cool and hydrated!

Today's forecast calls for abundant sunshine and afternoon highs either side of 90. Southerly winds are back at play, and they'll get a bit gusty out there at times. We expect sustained wind speeds around 5-15 mph with gusts near 20 mph today through the weekend.

As humidity increases from the Gulf of Mexico, we'll see low clouds return to the region both Saturday and Sunday during the morning hours but the afternoons will turn bright and hot.

For our Saturday, temps will range from morning 60s to afternoon highs near 90.

On Sunday, it'll be a slightly muggier start with a sunrise low near 70 then ramp up to a high in the low 90s with lots of afternoon sun.

Upper-level high pressure will keep conditions hot and stable for several days, and we think temps will soar into the upper 90s for both Monday and Tuesday. There's a chance we could hit 100 in metro Austin either day, rivaling the record of May 4 for earliest 100s in any year in the city's weather history.

Computer models show our next cold front entering the picture late next Tuesday or early on Wednesday with a minimal rain chance. As of now, we think temps will dip back to seasonable low-mid 80s by the middle of the week.

Give your body some extra attention as we get into the hotter time of year! That means drink lots of water and, if you're working outdoors, take frequent breaks. Also, it's important to keep kids and pets out of unattended cars -- they can become an oven.
