Monica Ortiz is a multimedia journalist covering the technology beat and a fill-in anchor at Spectrum News 1 Texas. She joined Spectrum Networks in January 2021. 

A Texas native, Monica attended Texas Tech University where she majored in Advertising and Mass Communications. She also received a master’s degree in Broadcast and Digital Journalism from Syracuse University. While attending Syracuse, Monica covered the Syracuse men and women’s basketball teams as a sideline reporter for the ESPN ACC Network Extra. She also covered the Syracuse women’s volleyball team as an analyst for the network. 

Also prior to Spectrum News 1 Texas, Monica was a weekend anchor and MMJ at CBS19 in Tyler, Texas. 

Monica has a passion for reporting stories that impact all Texans. While reporting in Austin, Monica covered a range of stories from the grand opening of Giga Texas, Project Connect’s Light Rail System, tech startups, the Sixth Street mass shooting, Uvalde mass shooting, and more. 

When not at work, you can find Monica hiking, kayaking at Lady Bird Lake, or hanging with her family.
