FORT KNOX, Ky. — With already-impressive vaccination numbers, the military post in Fort Knox continues to vaccinate military personnel as well as their dependents thanks to a large supply of vaccines in Kentucky.

What You Need To Know

  • Fort Knox has vaccinated over 8,000 people looking to add more

  • The base is now vaccinating all dependents of military personnel including children

  • More than 28% of the total force is now fully vaccinated and 40% of all service members have received at least one dose of vaccine according to the Dept. of Defense

  • The base is only offering the Moderna vaccine

The base has vaccinated over 8,000 military personnel and dependents since receiving doses in January.

“We are in the enviable position of being one of the few installations in the Department of Defense where supply is exceeding demand currently," said Commanding General John Evans. "So we have shots to give and we are encouraging all of our military members our military dependents and our beneficiaries to come in and get the vaccine.”

The base is offering the two-shot Moderna vaccine but there have been questions about the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, according to Dr. James Stevens

"A lot of people have asked for the single dose I’ll admit because it’s one dose," Stevens said. "Nobody likes getting shots but from the single dose to the double dose when it comes down to it people will take whatever shot is available right there.”

The goal of the base is to fully vaccine all who want it while still communicating that dependes are welcomed. A dependent is defined as anyone who is on Fort Knox workforce, service member dependents, service members, and retirees and their dependents.

According to Stevens the base has vaccinated anywhere from 200 to 1,000 people each day.
