  • Some time of the weekend a car left skid marks through the painting

  • The painting was unveiled for the first time over a week ago

  • No arrests have been made in connection to the vandalism

Deon Ellis, Taylor's uncle, told Spectrum News 1," Why would want to destroy something so nice?"

It wasn’t the image Ellis expected to see Sunday morning while touring the new mural at Lannan Park in west Louisville.

"People just don’t want to have nothing you know what I’m saying? That painting didn’t do nothing to nobody," explained Ellis.

Some time over the weekend, a car drove over the art and left skid marks through the painting. "It's a burn spot. It’s not graffiti or spray paint," suggested Ellis.

The mural was unveiled just over a week ago in honor of what would've been Taylor's 28th birthday

"Just throws away all the dead positive stuff out the window you know. It doesn’t sit well with you and I know it wouldn’t sit well with her mother," added Ellis.

The tribute joins others that are on display across the country in the wake of the deadly raid at Taylor’s apartment last year.

Ellis says it was to help the community to move forward, but instead, we're moving backward, now scarred with a painful reminder.

"Trying to make a change not only for our city but for the world you know. Why would you want to vandalize something like that?" said Ellis.

Ellis now wants the suspect or suspects involved to be held accountable for what they did.

"Something got to be on footage. They could be masked men or whatever, but I know something is on footage," says Ellis.  There are surveillance cameras surrounding the park.

No information from Louisville Metro Police Department has been released about possible arrests in connection to the vandalism.
