It's unfortunately a sign of the times. After 64 years of educating students, a Bronx music school is closing down. But there's an effort to save a piece of the business.

Photographers James and Karla Murray started a kickstarter campaign to help preserve the Palomba Academy of Music sign.

The school closed due to Covid-19 in March and will not reopen.

The 25 foot long sign outside the Gun Hill Road shop dates back to 1956 and was built by the well known Grauer Sign Company,

The Murrays say the American Sign Museum in Cincinatti, Ohio has agreed to put it on display, but the couple needs to raise more than $5000 to take it down and get it there.

"The store holds very fond memories for me and really its just a way of helping preserve a family owned business, because to us, these family owned shops are really the backbone of the community," Murray said.
