NIAGARA, N.Y. — Students at Niagara University are trying to stop an asphalt plant from moving into the town of Niagara.

The town board recently voted to revoke approvals for the planned facility on Whitmer Road but that doesn't mean it's over and done with.

Board members say if AL Asphalt still wants to buy the property, it can go through the approval process again.

That's why NU's Justice Houses Living and Learning Community is asking people to send comments to the state DEC urging the agency to suspend its consideration of the permit.

The group says the plant would have negative effects on the environment and people's health.

This is the second time AL Asphalt has had a plant rejected in the area after plans to build in the town of Hamburg stalled.
