After decades of work teaching the Buffalo community about the many achievements of African Americans, Eva Doyle is being honored.

Doyle writes the “Eye on History” column in the Buffalo Criteron, specializing in little-known facts about black history.

Dozens turned out at the Merriweather Library to celebrate the column’s 40th anniversary.

Doyle said it’s important for people to learn about different cultures in order to erase negative stereotypes.

“Everybody in this country, starting at the top and coming on down, has to be able to appreciate culture and diversity,” she said. “I feel very strongly about that.”

Doyle also writes a weekly column for the Buffalo News during Black History Month.
