One of the city’s aquatic landmarks needs some hefty repairs.

The Buffalo & Erie County Naval & Military Park’s USS The Sullivans has suffered severe damage to its hull.

Kelly Sullivan, the granddaughter of one of the five Sullivan brothers for which the ship is named, is on a mission to save it.

The goal is to raise $2 million for the repairs.

All five Sullivan brothers lost their lives on a U.S. Navy ship during World War II.

Sullivan said the ship is a reminder of the sacrifices made by her family and all military families every day.

”The ship is just like a veteran,” she said. “There have been so many sailors that have served on her and just like we honor and respect our veterans, we need to honor and respect the ship.”
