Members of Free the People Western New York met Wednesday in Martin Luther King Jr. Park to discuss what they call "an overwhelming number of people of color" being arrested and given tickets.

They also shared ideas on how to improve relations between police and the community.

"In terms of reform, we’d like to see policing that is community-based, that is not overly punitive, that doesn’t criminalize people for minor violations, and that treats us with the same courtesy and respect as they do white citizens," Free the People’s Miles Gresham said.

Free the People WNY would also like to see more community oversight into police departments.
