BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Tops Friendly Markets location on Jefferson Avenue in Buffalo remains closed until further notice following Saturday’s mass shooting at the store that left 10 people dead and three others injured.

The grocery store chain says that it is working to ensure that local residents have access to food and medicine by providing a bus shuttle service.

Tops says the shuttle will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday and then from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily beginning Monday from Jefferson Avenue and Riley Street to the Tops on nearby Elmwood Avenue.

The store says it is working to provide free food and supplies with Council Member Ulysees Wingo Sr. via the Resource Council of WNY on East Ferry Street.

Tops released a statement saying that is “heartbroken” over the mass shooting, and is working to provide counseling and support to those impacted:

“The Tops family is heartbroken over the senseless violence that impacted our associates and customers at our store on Jefferson Avenue.

We are working quickly to make sure that all of our associates have access to counseling and support that they may need.

Tops has been committed to this community and to the city of Buffalo for decades and this tragedy will not change that commitment.  We are working to find alternatives for our customers in this community while the store is closed and will provide updates in the near future.”
