That's more like it.
The Bills completely dominated from start to finish last Sunday against the Dolphins, winning 35-0.
The defense was on fire, racking up six sacks and pitching the team's first shutout since the 2016 regular season.
Offensively, things were better, but certainly not where that unit should be.
But as Josh Allen said afterwards, putting up 35 points with lots of room to grow is a good problem to have.
Let's dive into what's on tap as this weekend as the Bills welcome the Washington Football Team to Orchard Park.
One Small Step For Allen
Josh Allen's numbers through the first two games of the season are far from where he was a year ago.
Allen's thrown for 449 yards (27th) on 56% completion (30th), averaging 5.35 yards per completion (32nd).
The Bills QB himself admits he's been a bit off, including opening up this week about how mistakes tend to weigh heavily on him to the point where it affects his play moving forward.
Sean McDermott, though, trying to take some of the load off of his quarterback by saying that he feels improvements were made by Allen from week 1 to week 2.
Regardless of your perspective, this surprisingly may be a match-up Allen can really get right against.
Washington's defense was stout a year ago, ranking 2nd in the NFL in total yards allowed as well as against the pass. However it's been a rough start through two games this season, allowing 407.5 yards per game (25th). The rank 24th against the pass by allowing 281 yards per game and 23rd against the run by allowing 126.5 yards per game. Justin Herbert went 31/47 for 337 yards, a touchdown and an interception in week 1 against WFT. Daniel Jones went 22/33 for 249 yards and a TD last Thursday, adding another 95 rushing yards on 9 carries.
What a Rush Again
If you think the Bills invested heavily into their defensive line this offseason, Washington is a whole new level.
WFT used their 1st round pick from 2017-2020 on the DL, beginning with DT Jonathan Allen (17th ovearll 2017), Daron Payne (13th overall 2018), DE Montez Sweat (26th overall 2019), and DE Chase Young (2nd overall 2020).
Half of that group is off to a good start, with Allen leading the team with 3 sacks and Sweat right behind with 2. Young, last season's Defensive Rookie of the Year, has yet to take down the QB.
It's reasonable to worry that this talented group could cause similar troubles the Steelers did in week 1, sacking Allen 3 times and adding 8 QB hits and 7 hurries.
However the Bills offensive line earned praise from McDermott following the Dolphins game, while adding there is still room to grow.
Dion Dawkins said Friday that the OL understands the talent across from them, but feel if the Bills front does their job they can be effective.
Last Sunday we saw the same five guys on the offensive line as the 2nd half against Pittsburgh, with Cody Ford no longer rotating with Ike Boettger at right guard.
Add to that, Dawkins said the Miami game was the best he has felt since his bout with COVID, believing he continues to get closer and closer to his normal level of play.
Don't Take Taylor Lightly
The great story of Ryan Fitzpatrick returning to Orchard Park once again to face his former team was dashed early in week 1 when Fitzpatrick suffered an injury and was placed in injured reserve.
Taylor Heinicke has filled Fitz's shoes and done quite well.
Heinicke has thrown for 458 yards on 73.8% completion, 3 TDs to just one INT. That completion percentage is 7th best in the NFL.
While McDermott always makes it a point to show respect to the opponent, he was straight forward this week when discussing Heinicke, saying do not underestimate him.
He isn't pushing the ball too far down field, with an average length per pass of 7.59 yards (23rd).
Heinicke has solid weapons to throw to, led by Terry McLaurin, whose 15 receptions are one behind the most in the league through 2 games. McLaurin is coming off a game where he saw 14 targets from Heinicke.
Adam Humphries works the slot and Logan Thomas has emerged as one of the better tight ends in the league.
The Bills defense will try and ramp things up again after that six sack performance, though Washington's only allowed 2 sacks over the first 2 games this season.
Thomas Returns
Speaking of Thomas, it's a homecoming of sorts on Sunday after he was with the Bills from late in 2016 through the 2018 season.
Thomas had 19 catches for 144 yards and a TD catch in 24 games over that time.
He spent the 2019 season in Detroit before landing in Washington last year and breaking out with 72 receptions for 670 yards and 6 TDs.
This season Thomas has 8 catches for 75 yards and a score on 10 targets through two games.
Patterson Back in Town Too
Former UB running back Jaret Patterson will also making the return trip back to town.
Patterson's one of the best players in Bulls history, finishing 2nd in career rushing yards (3,884), but 1st in single-season rushing yards (1,799) and TDs (13). He was the Mid-American Conference Player of the Year last season and joined Khalil Mack as the only UB players to earn All-American honors (2nd team).
He made his hometown team as an undrafted free agent.
Playing time, though, is tough behind Antonio Gibson and J.D. McKissic.
Patterson has 2 carries for 9 yards this season, both coming in WFT's regular season opener.
Feature of the Week
As I mentioned earlier, Cody Ford has seemingly found his home at right guard.
The path to this point has been a bit all over the place.
Ford navigated multiple positions at the same time as well as suffering injuries each of his first two seasons.
I sat down with Ford this week as he opened up about why guard is his right spot to play, tackle wasn't, and the challenges moving around was on his development.
Plus how him being open about his mental health has in turn helped others.
